BATTLE FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES (regular) by Florian Bertmer
Limited edition screen print for J. Lee Thompson's 1973 science fiction classic, Battle for the Planet of the Apes, created by Florian Bertmer. This officially licensed movie poster is a collectible art print produced using traditional silkscreen printing techniques.
"The whole idea of the drawing is based on Dürer's classic Cain slaying Abel woodcut. In Battle for the Planet of the Apes we witness for the first time that an ape broke the most important taboo: 'ape shall not kill ape.'
The moment this happens the apes realize they have fallen from grace and their moral superiority is lost. They have fallen to the level of mankind because they have spilled the blood of another ape, one of their brothers so to speak. I wanted my print to look like an old illustration from an ape 'bible.' The ornament consists of depictions of the lawmaker and the lawgiver, the two foundations of the ape religion, if you can call it that."

Florian Bertmer's remarkable interpretation of Battle for the Planet of the Apes draws inspiration from Albrecht Dürer's famous woodcut depicting Cain slaying Abel, transforming the film's pivotal moral turning point into a richly symbolic composition. Designed to resemble an illustration from an ancient ape scripture, the artwork explores the collapse of the central commandment, "ape shall not kill ape," and the profound loss of innocence that defines the film's climax.
Released as part of Mondo's celebrated Day of the Apes portfolio for Alamo Drafthouse's 35mm marathon of the original five Planet of the Apes films, this hand-numbered edition of 345 prints showcases Bertmer's extraordinary linework and meticulous attention to detail. Printed by D&L Screenprinting using a vibrant seven-color silkscreen process, it is an exceptional collectible for fans of classic science fiction, alternative movie posters, and the Planet of the Apes franchise.
